In this first article, we would like to share our thinking behind the title “Team Breakthrough—Creating the future through challenge and innovation.”
A “team” is a group of people with a common goal.
“Breakthrough” means to break through a situation that had presented an obstacle.
Team Breakthrough is a combination of the two, in which the team works together to challenge various things, break through difficulties and issues, and realize innovation. It expresses the determination of Toyota Boshoku.

MONOZUKURI is overturning the idea that “cars are bad for the environment”“Cars are bad for the environment”: this is a common understanding among many people. Unfortunately, at this point, it has to be said it is true. So why are cars so bad for the environment? The answer lies in automobile exhaust fumes. Toxic substances such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are emitted when fuels such as gasoline and diesel oil are burned in automobiles. These substances cause a variety of environmental problems such as air pollution and global warming, which is why people say that cars are bad for the environment.

Stopping Desertification: Tree Planting Challenge for a Sustainable FutureAren’t deserts places in faraway lands? Climate change, water scarcity, resource depletion, and the biodiversity crisis. Whenever we come across keywords such as these, we sense that—one day in the future—we will use up the Earth’s resources. Forests are one of those resources: they play an important role in protecting biological diversity. Now, however, forests are being destroyed and desertification is steadily advancing all over the world.

Products created through a meeting of many mindsThe thinking behind MONOZUKURI There are always many people involved in our MONOZUKURI (manufacturing and craftsmanship) process. Let’s take the example of Toyota’s Mirai fuel cell vehicle, which was launched in December 2020 following a complete redesign. This car uses many parts developed by us, which are unique to fuel cell vehicles. Below, we introduce the thoughts of the developers behind the development of these components found in the Mirai.

Aiming for continuous improvement in technologySince 2006, the All Toyota Boshoku Skills Competition has been held with several aims: to raise the skills level of the entire company by confirming the skills level of each plant; to create a workplace culture where people can both teach and be taught through preparations for the competition; and to pass on the skills of managers and senior personnel to future generations.
