Competitive Collaboration

What does "Competitive Collaboration" mean? Most importantly it recognizes that our relationships and successes are interdependent. It accepts and embraces that we exist in an environment in which we have competitors and competing objectives. It drives us to jointly define the best solution for our business relationship.

What is success in a competitive collaboration environment?

Value becomes the measure of success in both buying and selling. Business is evaluated across all products and services, not just on a part by part basis. All parties understand and are playing by the rules of the game (both buying and selling rules).

Collaborative Guidelines

Toyota Boshoku Asia (TBAS) group will develop and reward suppliers for performance and improvement. Commitments made by our buyers are made on behalf of our entire organization. We request that suppliers monitor and respond to performance results provided by TBAS group.

<Our Expectations of Suppliers>

We expect suppliers to provide the best possible products at the most competitive price. Suppliers need to undertake product development and deploy manufacturing processes that address the customer's needs and wants. The following outlines our expectations:

  • Safety

Manufacturing is carried out by people, so it is of utmost importance to secure a safe environment for people to carry out manufacturing without worry. In a safe working environment, workers can concentrate their efforts on manufacturing, and make products of good quality.
  • Quality

It is said that enterprises never grow up without the improvement of the quality. At the quality of beginning phase, we expect suppliers to substantialize Jikoutei Kanketsu, which it can't make or pass defective item to next process. Also, problem in processes should be easy to find and countermeasure against the problem should be taken speedy.
  • Cost

We expect suppliers to offer the most competitive prices in the world. Suppliers need to develop new and innovative production technologies to support continuing cost reduction efforts.
  • Delivery and Production

We, Toyota Boshoku maximize efficiency through lean manufacturing, producing only what is needed, only when it is needed, and only the amount that is needed. We expect suppliers to contribute to this lean efficiency through flexible, error-free execution in preparation for mass production, and in delivery.
  • Technological Capabilities

Customer and social expectations are mounting in three main areas; technologies for environmental protection, safety, and comfort. Our suppliers need to grasp these expectations and to address them a step ahead of their competition through innovative products and technologies. Our suppliers also need to broaden the marketability of their products through dramatic cost reduction.
  • Green Purchasing

While our entire society must further increase awareness of environmental issues, businesses also are being required to make great efforts in establishing a "recycling-base society." So as to pass along a rich, abundant environment to succeeding generations, Toyota Boshoku makes it a practice to purchase parts, materials, and indirect materials from business actively working to preserve the environment. This approach is being promoted as "Toyota Boshoku Green Purchasing."
Under the "Green Purchasing Guidelines," we request the following of our suppliers.
    • So as to promote management of and achieve continuous improvement in environmental preservation activities throughout the organization, all suppliers are to establish "environmental management systems" based on external ISO 14001 certification.
    • To ensure thorough management of environmentally hazardous substances, the types and amounts of all chemical substances in the parts, materials, and indirect materials comprising any product must be reported when the product is newly adopted.
    • All information and data concerning banned and controlled substances, CO2 emissions, and other environmentally-related information for products must be reported.
